UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE — ARCHIVE SUMMARY

Inventor: Nikola Tesla (Smiljan / New York) • Title: Coil for Electro-Magnets
PATENT NO: 512,340
DATED: Jan. 9, 1894

Core Principle from Nikola Tesla’s 1894 Specification: Standard single-wire coils suffer from high internal self-induction and energy loss. By winding two parallel insulated conductors side-by-side in a flat spiral ("Bifilar Pancake" geometry) and connecting the end of the first wire to the start of the second wire, the voltage potential between adjacent turns is maximized—increasing electrostatic capacitance by orders of magnitude while counteracting self-inductance.

ORANGE = Conductor A (Start at Center → Outer Edge)  |  BLUE = Conductor B (Parallel Winding)
